A week ago Sunday, woke up, rolled over, and felt pain under right shoulder. Since I played on Friday and practiced on Saturday without taking medicine due to being at my mom's, can understand.
Last Sunday, woke at 5:30 from a dream where I was playing football and my right knee was throbbing with my right leg up off the couch. In spite of ice and medicine, pain did not stop. The next morning, the discomfort was located on the inside of the knee meaning I sprained my MCL.
While powering through work the day needing to get things done, was asked about seeing a doctor. I stated what would happen:
I walk in, pay copay.
Explain what happened to nurse and doctor both whom would find unusual and that since I tweaked my shoulder the week before did not play or practice which could lead to an injury.
Wince in pain as doctor examines leg and puts pressure where it hurts.
Go for x-ray with note excusing work the rest of the week.
Toss note in garbage then power through balance of work week maybe taking Thursday and or Friday off.
Would also state doing that saves copay.

Though I don't miss casting most Thursday nights since the second computer over a 14 month period died last June, this one is an exception. During the first year, I tried to get my mom to listen to my show and one time while on the phone with her, I told her to not listen. Of course she tuned in and then informed anyone in her family what I play on my show.

The Final? Voyage of the U.S.S. Whitehurst
Twelve years
ago, I squeezed into a van with six others to head to Bloomington, MN for a
convention called Marscon since Dr. Demento was there and it turned out to be
an amazing, life-changing weekend.
The next
year, knowing that there are many in the Chicago area that do not have a
vehicle I decided to rent a large van to take people to Marscon and it then
became the best way to get there. The convention for those in the van started
when the trip began and did not end until we got back home.
In late 2006, two people many of us knew passed away. One was a Dementia Radio DJ called Blindwulf. He lived in Colorado and in spite of his name most of us had no idea he was blind and also disabled until after he died of a heart attack.

The other
one was a musician named Logan Whitehurst. At the time, I did not know much of
his music but others did. He had been suffering from headaches which turned out
to be cancer and after a three year battle, it claimed his life.
In 2008, due
to demand, we needed two vehicles and Luke Ski drew a cartoon of us in a van
called the Dementia Bus (named after a reference the Luke Ski tribute song
about Weird Al’s Another One Rides the Bus) which was titled the U.S.S.
Blindwolf. He also made nameplates for the vans one for him and one for Logan.
Even though it cost me between $300 and $500 for the van rental, it was doable. Recently, it became more difficult to afford that amount and others found their own way to get there or decided it was no longer worth it to go since I realized 4 nights in a hotel was necessary so I can safely get home.

My work
situation this year really made things difficult and I felt horrible telling
others I can’t take them not knowing when or if I could go. Due to a change with my
work situation made at the beginning of last month, I can attend normally.
Another
thing has changed my Marscon drive and that is my body. Ten years ago, I had
trouble entering and exiting the vehicle and though I now understand why and
take medicine for it, my body is worse than ever. The only reason I am driving
other than getting compensated for taking gear and driving one person who did
not know my situation is that my daughter is going with me this year and two airline tickets were too expensive.
It makes
sense to name this vehicle after Logan since I am carrying one current Logan Awards juror to the
ceremony that will be at Marscon. I then realized this:
One year had an extra juror and there are two people who won two awards.
Last year at Marscon was difficult for me. Though I did not drive, my body started giving me problems Friday afternoon and Friday evening after a concert while getting up off a chair, my left knee gave and the leg completely failed. Had Carrie not been there to grab, I might have fallen. I did not bring my pain medication with me but had my arthritis medication (which is also used for chemo). Saturday morning I took the once a week medication along with the supplement that I need to take with it. Two hours later it felt like my blood was on fire as well as the sharp pain in my left knee.

I tried my
best to stay calm but the fact that I was at Marscon in pain made my mood worse
and due to bad timing along with me actually being a madman on the loose, the wrong person ended up being at the wrong place at the wrong time on two
separate occasions.
At a future
time I tried to explain that after three weeks of my pain, I discovered that I mixed up bottles and what I thought was a supplement was in fact a steroid which not only increases
anger but fought the medication which prevents cell growth causing the burning
feeling inside. Though I said that and apologized, I know things can never be
the same and can tell that it won’t be no matter what I do or say. At least I
learned to NEVER fuck with medications again and will carefully pack what I should take as well as anything I
could take. Since the medicine is metabolized in the liver, that means no alcohol as well.
I am thinking that this Marscon, #13 for me, would be ideal to be my last unsure about my future physical and financial situation. Unsure about my daughter’s school situation or desire in future years, this could be her last one for a while too. It is possible that I would fly to MN next year as opposed to driving. Thoughts of a former juror
Today the finalists for the 6th annual Logan Awards (for excellence in comedy music) were announced which will be presented Mar 5th at Marscon.
Outstanding Original Comedy Song:
Carla Ulbrich - “Joe’s Ex-Girlfriends”
Insane Ian - “Benedict Cumberbatch”
Katie Goodman - “You’re A Feminist”
Schaffer the Darklord - “Sex Rhymes”
Steve Goodie - “I Dropped My Phone in the Toilet”
Unlike most years, there were not many original songs I really liked and one of them, Unexpecting the Unexpected, is about a subject I can understand people not finding funny.
To me Carla's and Steve's songs are OK and I did not care for Katie's. I gave the STD song another listen and would have voted for it though it did not appear on my end of year list.
Insane Ian deserved having the #1 song of the year on the Dr. Demento show and I hope he wins.

When I first heard Twilight Zone by Golden Earring, I was disappointed it was not about the TV show and was ecstatic Luke Ski did that parody. I can see jurors not sharing that enthusiasm.
Cheek to Cheek is a fine song but I know others about that subject I find better. I clicked on the link to the video to the Glove and Boots song and like I did when I was a juror, heard it without watching the video and don't care for it at all.
The other three are pretty equal to me and all worthy but I hope the Dino-Mike song wins since I nominated it.

The christmas lineup
Late in 2015 I heard that the launch date for my company's new system was March 1st and that all vacation the week before, during and after won't be allowed which would affect my Marscon plans it usually happens the first weekend of March.
To be honest, I was bummed but then realized I need to go to Marscon no matter what and was figuring out how when I heard a rumor that the start of the new system was delayed and last Friday the vacation time was finally allowed so I can fully attend with my daughter like I have done for the previous 12 years.
So, as I often have done, my assessment on who will be there is from my perspective taking account that my daughter will be there as well.
Steve Goodie: A- : The artist who is only a couple of days older than me has probably released more albums and songs than anyone else in the genre and I will be getting his 27th album there. I first knew of him from his Harry Potter material and now he delves into political music as well as other things. My daughter missed his FuMPFeST set last year and his act is one of the ones she most wants to see.
Carla Ulbrich: B+ : I believe this is her first appearance at Marscon since 2006 when a snow storm trapped her in Iowa causing her to get there early Sunday morning. She will be performing three of her songs during the Logan Awards being a finalist. Once again, my daughter will be wanting to see her as she missed her FuMPFeST 2015 performance.
TV's Kyle featuring Lindzilla B : The creator of the Cartoon Network series Mighty Magicswords will be there with his music. Though he does fine on stage, I am more interested in hearing how production on the show is going.
Devo Spice: A- : The surprising Logan Awards winner for best parody last year will be rapping again at Marscon. Last March two weeks after seeing him at Marscon , I called to place a food order, drove home, picked up the food, walked to the train station, ate while taking the train downtown, and hurried five blocks through Downtown Chicago to see his show with five other people.
Insane Ian A- : No doubt the person who had Dr. demento's #1 song of 2015 is my daughter's favorite FuMP act as he parodies songs she knows about subjects she knows.
Raymond and Scum : B- : I needed to take care of things during the start of their 2014 FuMPFeST set returning just in time to see their last song as they only prepared a twenty plus minute show. not knowing they had an hour time slot. Other than a remake of their Lando song, I don't know of anything else they have done in the past ten years but it will be nice to hear them again.
Power Salad: B : Marscon will always be better when he is there off and on the stage.
Dino-Mike A : Had someone told me on Jan 1st last year that one artist will make an original song as well as a parody song that would make my top five end of year show like Luke Ski, Insane Ian, and Weird Al have done, Dino-Mike would have not even crossed my mind. I will be picking up his new CD ANALBUM there.
Schaefer the Darklord: B+ : When it was recently announced that the Logan Awards finalist will be at Marscon doing a Friday evening show, there were multiple nerdgasms and his appearance makes the music lineup better. I might be purchasing his most recent CD.
So why only a B+? Both my daughter and I are outside the best age to fully enjoy his act. I have aged to the point where highly intense acts can become overwhelming (unless I get hyper drunk) and NC-17 material is still too much for my daughter who was OK with Deadpool because of her friends.
Music guest of honor the great Luke Ski: A : As stated on the sites, the con chair insisted Luke gets the 2016 GOH spot. Considering all the hard work he has done for the con over the past 12 years, he deserves it. It used to be that I would see his show 10 or more times a year often from his merch booth and that his Marscon show would be a footnote to me seeing him perform but with the changes in his world Marscon looks like it will be only one of two times I see him perform on stage in 2016.
Along with other artists, Luke often premiers a new song at Marscon which is one of the unique things that happen there and one of Luke's new tracks might be awesome and awkward at the same time.

Pandemic Legacy part 8
Quarantine specialist Ahmed Kliner's blog:
Three staff members approached Commander Jacob Potter wondering why they have not seen in field action. He told them to bide their time but Dispatcher Peggy O'Reily, Generalist Charles Emerson Winchester V (Cev), and Operations Expert Billy Bob Rizzo walked away unhappy.
Then we got a report that Dr. Martha McIntyre who was close to finding a cure for the faded figures - a disease she named El Guapo, disappeared and that our group needed to find her so Billy Bob was called into action while our scientist, Dr. Houlihan, stayed behind.
After the operations expert set up a station in Miami, we quickly located Dr. McIntyre as an epidemic happened quickly in Bancock followed by multiple outbreaks in Asia and the Pacific rim.
Our medic, Dr. Erin Hunnicutt headed that way to treat as I quarantined as much as I can and we got things there under control but soon things in South America and Africa went real bad real fast. By the time UNIT was able to shut down everything in the world, Buenos Aires and Khartorum were collapsing and Johannesburg had fallen.
We got more equipment while making a military base in Manila permanent.
